Platform Face-Off at Mobilize ’08

Video available
I was invited by Surj Patel, VP of Development for Giga Omni Media (GigaOM) to act as the moderator for the mobile platform planel at Mobilize ’08 in San Francisco last week. Surj and I served as co-chairs for the O’Reilly Open Mobile Exchange at OSCON ealier this year and I am appreciative that he extended this opportunity to me for Mobilize ’08.
We had a great panel – representatives from Adobe, Microsoft, Qualcomm, LiMo Foundation, Research In Motion (RIM), and Symbian. With a panel that large, I followed a structured format, asking each panelist one question with time alloted for the other panelists to respond. After each question (following a this vs. that type issue), the audience weighed in with a show of hands. The end result? The audience at Mobilize believed that the mobile platform future will be web, centralized, installed, corporate, consumer, and open. I’m not sure that combination will work, but it was fun nonetheless. While Apple and Google did not participate in the panel, iPhone and Android came up during the panel and throughout the day’s schedule.
I have embedded the slide deck for a bit more context on this panel, but the video will provide the full experience.
Thank you for sharing this information, which I learned a lot, but also know a lot of knowledge. I hope I’ll still see your information next time.
